Emily Sue Sylvester

July 20, 1944 — January 23, 2025

Sue was born on July 20, 1944, to Mary and Neal Retherford in Richmond, Indiana. The family moved to Denver in the late 1940's. Sue attended East High School and graduated from the University of Southern Colorado at Pueblo. She worked at the Denver Department of Social Services where she met her husband, Randy. Sue was employed as a Social Worker in the Adult Protection Unit. She resigned in 1977 to be home with her children Kyle and Lane and later her daughter, Dana. No child ever had a better mother. Although Sue had several part-time jobs, her focus was always on her family.

She will be remembered for her love, sensitivity and kindness to friends, relatives and stranger alike, her strong Christian faith, and her perseverance in the face of difficult circumstances. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; her younger brother, Rod; her older brother, Mike; and her dear niece, Gina. She is survived by her husband of fifty-three years, Randy; her sister, Patty; her three children, Kyle, Lane and Dana; her daughters in law, Deanne and Kathy; her son in law, Charles; six grandchildren, Caden, Ash, Autumn, Calvin and Clementine, Penelope Sue and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. 

Sue passed away after a lengthy illness on January 23, 2025. Services will be held on February 7, 2025, at St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church, located at 1400 South University Boulevard, Denver, Colorado at 10:00am. A reception is scheduled to follow at the church with inurnment at Arvada Cemetery, located at 5581 Independence Street, at 1:30pm.
